I was born prematurely weighing in at 3 pounds 3 ounces, and in critical condition. For the next few months, I would be confined to a hospital incubator. Due to various bodily complications, I was unexpected to live but overcame the odds and adapted.

As a young man, I was under direct care from Shiners Hospital. Attending annual checkups aligning my legs, pelvis, and back. However, due to scoliosis and the shape of my spine, solutions to the problems seemed to be unattainable. I was going to have to adapt to the problems that inflicted my body. Although my legs and back continually provide me a lot of pain, I have embraced the challenge.

For me sports represent no limits. There are no boundaries. It’s a challenge embraced by many who desire to achieve. Though I walk with a bit of a limp it does not slow me down. Over the years, I have been able to participate in everything I have put my heart and mind into.

I was introduced to wheelchair basketball by Mike Schlappi in 2004.  As with any “Rookie”, there are always new beginnings. I willed myself to learn the pace, and the art of the game from a wheelchair. After five years I am still known as the “Rookie” of the team. Even with two final four appearances. Maybe this will be the year that I can possibly get my name changed to the “Sixth Man”. And don’t forget to mention this will be the year that we seek a third appearance in the Final Four and claim the National Title.

I really enjoy the game of basketball and the valuable lessons and friendships that are made.  Being involved with wheelchair basketball has encouraged me to become a well-balanced individual. Though I exert a great passion for sports, I have specifically sought to find ways to develop myself into a valuable person for my family and community. I have found that the best way to be of value is to serve others. By working hard and serving those around me, I have been very successful. Moreover, I know that the success I have experienced is entirely dependant upon what I was willing to give. Life is a challenge; give it all you got!

I currently reside in Lehi, UT. I have been married since 2002 to my beautiful wife. In addition, we are expecting a new arrival in late October.
