Management Retreats Print E-mail
Share/Save/Bookmark

A Management retreat represents a significant investment of time and energy. Many companies refrain from holding them because they are regarded as time consuming, and perhaps even a bit frivolous. Or, they think a retreat is only for Fortune 100 corporations. However, conducted properly, they can be your best overall investment for making decisions to help move your business into a more successful future.

Being part of a small business leadership team is a lot like being enrolled in a management training program -- the learning opportunities can be extremely beneficial. Leadership teams share accountability for the company's success, and elements that must be managed include your employees, clients, and customers.

layneshawnTeamwork is usually a theme of any Corporate/Company retreat. Let the Wheelin' Jazz help. We provide the wheels. You provide the team. Everyone gets involved and the fun begins.

A retreat can be as simple as the management team playing a fun game against the Wheelin' Jazz. Or get in the chairs for a robust game with the managers playing on teams against each other with the winning team getting some extra vacation days or different prizes. Or do both.

When the games finish, you can have our team members give personal experiences that coincide with the goals of your retreat. Our players are always willing to give personal, touching, heartbreaking, and inspiring messages that will lift your team to higher corporate excellence.

The Neuroworx Wheelin' Jazz are very involved in the community. One of the missions of the team is to be role models and peers to others differently abled to let them know that life is not over because of an injury or birth defect.

We take our sport and responsibility to the community seriously. We do exhibitions at elementaries, Jr Highs, high schools, colleges, businesses, etc.. The idea is to raise awareness and shine our lights to as many as will open their eyes. We speak on the importance of accident prevention, attitude, and acceptance of those with differences. The stories of our athletes are inspiring, heart breaking, uplifting, and motivational.

More importantly, we seek to be good community members. We visit the newly injured in the hospitals and rehab centers to help the healing process and mentor them to a better quality of life. Several members of the team serve on various Boards around the valley. Some are members of the Rotary, Lions, and other charitable groups. We support other causes such as Salt Lake County Adaptive, the National Ability Center, and others.

We do public speaking to share our stories. Our athletes have a great message of endurance, tolerance, overcoming obstacles, patriotism, and community involvement. We love to share our successes, failures, insights, and humor. As one of our teammates would tell you, "Shot Happens." (He was shot as a youth.)

If you would like to have a member of the Wheelin' Jazz come to your school, organization, or business, please contact Layne Mangum at laynemangum@wheelinjazz.com.

paragliderOur teammates know all too well that accident prevention is the key to a healthy life. You won't hear us talk about shutting yourself in to avoid life and all it has to offer. Instead, we want all to be safe with whatever endeavor they are pursuing.

Part of our public presentations is to share the thoughtless actions that brought about some of the conditions we are in. We share common sense principles to help young people realize that they are not invincible; that while they go about their lives, simple safety ideas can bring them home safely at night.

The picture here is one that I took on Sept 24, 2009 at the Draper Flight Park at the Point of the Mountain. After landing, I questioned the young man of about the safety of the sport. Although he is a daredevil, he has all the right gear and takes his safety very seriously. He seeks to educate others in the proper safety protocols that he practices.

mike_speakingEach member of the Wheelin' Jazz has his own unique story. Each has lived his own trials and triumphs. Each also understands that everybody has their own trials and triumphs. Some disabilities are more apparent than others.

To that end, our teammates have become powerful public speakers as they showcase their own visible disability to show that with the right attitude, sense of humor, and genuine work, all obstacles can be overcome. Our team consists of World Class Athletes that have compteted on the world stage including the Paralympics, World Cup, International Tours of Spain, Japan, Thailand, and others.

mike_speaking01Our unique experiences and stories are uplifting, heartbreaking, inspirational, patriotic, amusing, funny, and motivational. We love to share with anyone willing to listen. If you, your buisness, or organization would like to have our team share our experiences with you, please email or call Layne Mangum at 801.400.2882.

Featured in these pictures is Mike Schlappi who makes a living as a public speaker. Click here to see his profile and click the pictures to see his website. Click here to see a demo of Mike's presentation.

hosp_visit01A big part of our mission as members of the Wheelin' Jazz is to help those newly injured transition from what they knew to the unknown. It is in our nature to be frightened and apprehensive when faced with new challenges. Our teammates regularly go to hospitals and rehab centers to meet newly injured patients to help them transition to their "different life."

Sometimes it's just a friend to talk to, answer questions, be a listening ear. Sometimes it's helping to learn how to transfer from the wheelchair to a car or cross a non-accessible curb. Whatever the situation, we are dedicated to helping people learn the boundaries of their new life, then shatter the boundaries with new skills.

A spinal cord injury or leg amputation is devastating, life-changing, and initially creates the belief that any kind of recreation or outdoor activity is impossible. We set out to prove those ideas wrong. We show the newly injured that life does go on and we show them how to do it. We then welcome them to our world of wheelchair sports. It is truly life changing.
